Solid Waste Webinar Series: Elevated Temperatures in Landfills and Geomembrane Liner Performance

August 13, 2024 @ 1:00 pm - 2:00 pm EDT

The generation of heat in landfills is a complex process due to the heterogeneity of the waste stream coming into the landfills. High heat or elevated temperature could potentially damage the landfill liner system, landfill final cover system, and landfill gas collection system. This presentation aims to describe the heat generation mechanisms, observed elevated temperatures in some landfills, and the performance of geomembrane liners due to the observed elevated temperatures.
