ESG

CEC strives to support its employees, clients, and communities through a commitment to service, environment, business continuity, and innovation. As part of that commitment, we seek to enhance the outcomes of our activities by considering our environmental, social, and governance (ESG) influences in decision-making at all levels of the organization. Our ESG strategy will serve as a mechanism to assist the company in viewing and shaping its objectives through transparent consideration of the ESG priorities of its stakeholders.

Accountability

The CEC Board of Directors has the overall authority for the existence of CEC’s ESG Committee and its responsibilities. CEC’s President & CEO provides updates to the Board of Directors as needed and serves as the executive sponsor for the committee. Committee Members are selected by the Committee Chairperson in consultation with the President & CEO. The Committee Chairperson provides ongoing leadership and oversight of Committee Member activities.

In August 2021, CEC’s Board of Directors formed a Steering Committee that was tasked with developing a Vision Statement, defining CEC’s stakeholders, mapping out a process for developing our ESG Strategy, and anticipating outcomes.

In January 2022, Dustin Kuhlman introduced ESG to all CEC employees and announced the creation of CEC’s Corporate ESG Committee. All employees were subsequently invited to submit letters of interest for consideration as members of CEC’s ESG Committee. The committee formed on April 5, 2022 and started work on CEC’s ESG Strategy.

Guiding Principles of CEC’s ESG Strategy Process

Five guiding principles for how the ESG Committee would approach the development of CEC’s ESG Strategy were discussed during the ESG Committee’s initial meeting. These principles continue to be fundamental to how the committee functions.

Providing value to our stakeholders is the central purpose of the Committee.

From the President & CEO

We have elected to develop and implement an ESG strategy because we believe that organizations have a responsibility to be stewards of the environment, contributing members of their communities, and supportive of the people who rely on them. We have also heard from many of our employees that they place a high value on attentiveness to ESG issues by CEC. Although not required by governmental agencies, some of our clients have inquired about our ESG program and have indicated that they may make a firm’s ESG performance or ESG scoring a component of consultant selection.

To that end, we have formed an ESG Committee to guide and drive the advancement of our ESG strategy.

I am very excited that we are taking this important step to help ensure the long-term sustainability of CEC and hope that you will all support the committee and its initiatives.

Dustin J. Kuhlman, P.E. | President & CEO
